That delay from years ago?
You can still claim it.

Spain gives you five years: flights from Spain since October 2021 still count. Elsewhere it depends on the country, from 1 year (Poland) to 6 (UK, Ireland).

Free. Any flight leaving the EU or UK, or flying into the EU on an EU airline, counts. How far back you can go depends on the country.

Tip: airline apps keep years of trip history. Ryanair, Vueling and Iberia all show past bookings under “My trips”.

Most people think compensation is only for last week’s flight. For flights from Spain the limit is five years, so every bad flight since October 2021 could be worth €250–€600 per person. The UK and Ireland give six years, France five, Germany three. Most of those flights were never claimed.

Where these come from

Depends on where the claim would be heard, usually the departure country. The 2026 reform sets a 9-month window for future flights once it applies (expected 2027), so older flights are the ones to check now.

Flights people forget they can claim

Summer 2023 ATC strikesMany flights were cancelled before the strike day itself; those cancellations often weren’t “extraordinary”.
Missed connectionsA short delay on leg one that made you miss leg two counts from your final arrival time.
“We rebooked you” flightsBeing put on the next day’s flight is still a cancellation. Compensation plus the hotel.
Package holidaysThe flight part of a package still qualifies. Claim from the airline, not the tour operator.
