Stuck at the airport? Here’s what they owe you right now.
Free. Works for EU and UK flights. Compensation comes later; this is about today.
Your flight
What they owe you now
The airline must give you meals and refreshments for the wait, usually as vouchers at the desk. If they don’t, buy something reasonable and keep the receipt.
You can ask for two phone calls, emails or messages, free.
Only if the new departure is the next day.
From 5 hours of delay.
If you land 3+ hours late or the cancellation was within 14 days, you may be owed €250–€600 each on top of all this, unless the cause was truly outside the airline’s control. Check it after you land.
Food, calls and a hotel are owed even when the delay is caused by weather or air traffic control. Compensation is a separate question.
“Under EU Regulation 261/2004, article 9, please give us meal vouchers for the wait. Could you also confirm the cause of the delay in writing? Thank you.”
Keep your receipts here
Had to pay for food, a hotel or a taxi? Snap the receipt. When you start your claim on this phone, we add them to it so the airline refunds them too.
